The Bernese cement tile event

The Swiss Blatter AG is the leading family company for ceramic and natural stone floor and wall coverings, glass mosaic and seamless coverings in Bern and a long-standing, valued partner of Mosáico cement tiles.

An insight into the Blatter AG showroom

In spring 2018, Blatter AG welcomed numerous customers, architects, interior designers and designers to their premises in Bern to introduce them to the impressive, traditional processes of cement tile production. The idea for these events was born after regular, trusting cooperation between Mosáico Zementfliesen and Blatter AG. Events like this take place regularly every three to four years, but it should be something special this time, Urs Ammann, co-owner of Blatter AG, told me over the phone. “Everyone can only display tiles,” which is why planning began for an interactive event, during which the guests could experience for themselves how complex it is to produce a cement tile and how much experience it takes to produce it in consistently high quality. In order to implement this plan, a cement tile press, which can be dismantled and therefore transported, should be used.

The technical manager of the Mosáico factory in Marrakech, Mr. Abdlaghni Bouchama, actively supported in Bern.

However, this idea proved more difficult to implement than expected. These presses are not normally designed for assembly and dismantling, so all that remained was the development of a new cement tile press, which had to be built specifically for this purpose. Thanks to Mr. Bailos's thorough research and the know-how of our locksmith, who otherwise also produces the metal templates for new tile patterns, they were actually built and successfully tested. Well packaged, she set off on her journey to Switzerland, where she also passed the next test run at the scene.

But it was not only to diversify and present the new press, but also because Blatter AG is firmly convinced that decorative, high-quality cement tiles are on the rise and will experience a true renaissance. Mosáico offered himself very well as a reliable, committed and creative partner and was eagerly involved in the planning and implementation. In addition to the hydraulic cement tile press, the technical manager of the Mosáico factory in Marrakech, Mr. Abdlaghni Bouchama and managing director Mr. Daniel Bailo also supported the events. In addition, he ensured Musician Pudi Lehmann with a wind chime for the right atmosphere. This had an effect on the guests, who felt very comfortable throughout the event and were therefore very impressed. The Mosaico event was supplemented with Moroccan rugs: Under the direction of artist and textile designer Salomé Bäumlin, sustainable rugs are produced between the High Altas and the Anti-Atlas with local weavers (www.aitselma.com).

The singing bowl player Audi Lehmann was hired to create the right atmosphere

Mr. Ammann reported consistently positive feedback from a total of almost 500 guests present. The enormous effort behind the series of events was definitely worth it and the events were a great success. We are sure that this series of events has created a whole new awareness of the value of the product and the craftsmanship behind the cement tiles.

We would like to thank the Blatter AG team very much for this wonderful collaboration and look forward to further great events and exciting projects together.
