Cement tiles — for body and soul

We are constantly receiving inquiries as to whether cement tiles are also suitable for the kitchen.

Our answer: Well, sure! They are very suitable for kitchens. If the good pieces are carefully moved and maintained, they can live to be 100 years and even older.

Resilient and permanently beautiful — thanks to air drying

Many houses from the Wilhelminian period still have original, well-preserved antique tiles. Back then, from around 1850 to be precise, cement tiles came to Germany from Spain. Many were moved just where they were exposed to heavy loads: driveways, halls — and kitchens.

The hand-cast, air-dried cement tiles can withstand a lot.

Drying in air in particular ensures that cement tiles are so resilient. Ceramic plates are fired at very high temperatures of around 900 °C. Before firing, they are given a thin glaze, under which lies an even thinner layer of paint. As soon as the glaze cracks, dirt and water can penetrate.

Cement tiles with their silky, shiny surface acquire a beautiful age patina over time. This is how they shine in all their beauty for a long time and delight their owners for generations.

Warm appearance — for all kitchens

When it comes to aesthetics, the hand-cast cement tiles also score points. In addition to their durability and resilience, they are characterized by beautiful patterns and warm, rich colors. Individual ideas are also possible — our designers will help you implement your wishes.

The be-all and end-all: proper installation and maintenance in kitchens

If you pay attention to the following points when installing and maintaining, oil, red wine, beetroot or spinach will not leave any marks.

When installing, pay attention to...

  • a narrow joint of up to 2.5 mm
  • a well-dried, flat, smooth and low-vibration base
  • Rooftop screed that has been carefully aligned and leveled

Our tip: Hire a tiler who has experience using cement tiles as a material. With this, you're playing it safe.

For maintenance, pay attention to...

  • careful, professional impregnation
  • a protective wax layer for stain protection
  • Care with low-acid cleaning agents such as classic lubricating side or special products

The large, country-style kitchen is not the only place where the family meets. The guests of the house also gather around the stove and table during the invitations.
